The Washington, D.C. Green Festival Expo Launch Party took place at Busboys and Poets on Tuesday, April 19th, 2016, for the 3rd year in a row! Special thanks to Andy Shallal, Owner of Busboys and Poets for providing this wonderful location. Guests included local small business owners, media representatives, environmental advocates and community members who all share the important commitment to making Washington, D.C. more sustainable. Those attending enjoyed an array of delicious vegan hors d'oeuvres provided by Green Festival's D.C. Launch Party Sponsor Busboys and Poets. Green Festival’s valued exhibitors sponsoring the Launch Party included: Lunchskins, DoTerra, Everbar, Charm School Chocolate, Skin Scholars, and Cabot Cheese.
The D.C. Launch Party received wonderful green items from Lunchskins, DoTerra, Everbar, Charm School Chocolate, Skin Scholars, Natural Awakenings, Green America, The DC Dentist, Busboys and Poets and Cabot Cheese, which were included in the gift bags that provided a taste of what was to come at the Green Festival Expo on May 6, 7 and 8th at the D.C. Convention Center. Moms will receive free admission all 3 days of the expo in celebration of Mother’s Day weekend. In addition cyclists will receive free admission when they bike and show their helmet at the box office! Students will be free on Friday with student ID and $5 off the door ticket price Saturday and Sunday.
Green Festival Expo is back in Washington, D.C. for the 12th year in a row and endorsed by State Senator Jamie Raskin, County Executive Isiah Leggett and Mayor Bowser. We are proud to announce that through our sponsorship with WGL Energy they are donating Green-e Climate Certified Carbon Offsets to counterbalance greenhouse gas emissions from this year's show, as part of their commitment to protecting the environment! D.C. Green Festival Expo will also be partnering with COWSPIRACY: The Sustainability Secret, which will be aired for suggested donations and proceeds will go toward aiding the conservation efforts of American Wild Horse Preservation and the animals at Rowdy Girl Sanctuary.
Those in attendance at this year's Launch Party included Dr. Corinna Basler (President of Green Festivals), Karen Baker (Green Festival's Regional Director), Denise Hamler (Director and Co-Founder of the Green Business Network), Dr. Terry Victor from the DC Dentist, Tracye McQuirter, By Any Greens Necessary, and Terry Scott from Critical Exposure. Media in attendance at the event included: We Act Radio Station; DCTV; DC on Heels; Blogger Deloitte Consulting Social Impact; Blogger Style with Buki; Blogger Bitches Who Brunch; Pathways Magazine and Natural Awakenings. Nonprofit representatives in attendance at the Launch Party included: Hawah Kasat with One Common Unity; Kim Goddu with Bethesda Green; Wendy Howard with Green Wheaton and Brittany Stewart with DC Greens.
In the inspirational speech by Corinna Basler, the purpose of Green Festival Expo was discussed and its importance to mainstreaming sustainable choices in our everyday lives. Dr. Basler encouraged everyone to make a difference in their daily lives because we have to be the change. Consumers have an opportunity to join the sustainable movement, and Green Festival Expo provides the tools they need to move forward. She highlighted that we still have a long way to go, but through empowerment and innovation we can keep striving for a better future.
